Fields: Add/Edit EDS Source
EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) is a federated service that provides electronic resources to libraries. Enterprise lets libraries that subscribe to EDS include EDS as a federated target that patrons can search and use to download electronic resources. Your library can subscribe to EDS through EBSCO. When you add an EDS federated target to the system, Portfolio adds the displays and search features that provide the discovery features to find and download EDS items.

Much of the EDS configuration can only be performed from within EBSCO's EDS administration page. See the EDS documentation that EBSCO provided for what elements can be configured and how to configure them. |

Search fields |
Creates search fields for each of the corresponding EBSCO fields. You can customize the search result or detail displays with these fields. |
Search result display |
Creates an EDS search result display that the library can customize. For more information, see Adding or editing a search result display. |
Detail display |
Creates an EDS detail display that the library can customize. For more information, see Adding or editing a detail display. |
Full text download link |
Provides a way for patrons to access the item through a Download or View button (for EBSCO's pdflink data element). This data element is linked to the EDS_FULL_TEXT search field. For more information, see Search field properties. This link requires a patron to log in to Enterprise. |
View details link |
Provides a way for patrons to view details of the item directly in the detail display under an accordion heading (for EBSCO's FullText data element). This data element is linked to the EBSCO_DETAIL_LINK search field. For more information, see Search field properties. This link does not require a patron to log in to Enterprise. |
Custom links |
Additional links, such as a Google author search or a preview of the item, can be added to search result and detail displays as the Custom Links search field. This data element is linked to the EDS_FULL_TEXT_CUSTOM_LINK search field. For more information, see Search field properties. This link does not require a patron to log in to Enterprise. |
Search options |
Populates the search menu with EDS-specific options. When the EDS target is selected in the Search bar, the options in the field drop-down come directly from the library's EDS configuration. You cannot configure which of the EDS options appear in the list in Portfolio; all configurations must be set in your library's EDS configuration. See your EBSCO documentation for more information. |
Everything search |
For an unrestricted search of an EDS source, Portfolio maps Portfolio search fields to EDS-specific fields to locate matching EDS items:
|
Facets |
Retrieves the facets and navigators directly from EBSCO, along with the EDS content. Facet configuration can only be set from within the library's EDS account. |
Expanders |
Retrieves the expanders directly from EBSCO, along with the EDS content. Expander configuration can only be set from within the library's EDS account. |
Limiters |
Retrieves the limiters directly from EBSCO, along with the EDS content. Limiter configuration can only be set from within the library's EDS account. |
|
The labels for the contents link described above should be configured. If the display field label configuration for a profile is left blank, the button labels will default to the search field names. For more information, see Selecting displays for a search profile. |
Name
Specifies the system name of the EBSCO EDS search source (up to 80 characters). This system name is used to identify the search source on the Federated Search Sources page and on any other pages in the Admin console that display the search source name.
For this field, you can also specify an alternate name for a specific language. The name that you specify will appear when the Admin console is displayed in that language. Choose the language from the drop-down list of supported languages, then enter the localized name in the field.
Note: If your web browser is configured to use a display language that is not supported by Portfolio and you have chosen to display the Admin console in a language other than the default language (en_US), the language that displays in the drop-down list of supported languages defaults to US English.
If a localized name already exists for a specific language, the software displays that language name differently in the drop-down list. When you enter a localized name for a specific language, the language name appears with a "++" suffix. If you clear the localized name for a specific language, the software displays the language name without this formatting.
Description
Specifies a text description of this EDS search source (up to 80 characters). This description is displayed on the Federated Search Sources page.
Host
Specifies the host name of the EDS server to connect to the search source.
EDS Profile ID
EBSCO provides this when you sign up for EDS.
Organization ID
Specifies the ID that EBSCO has assigned to your library.
Username
Specifies the library's username that is used to access the EDS account.
Password
Specifies the password that is used to access the EDS account.
